D'America! ...whatever...

From the graphic on the right by Pulitzer Prize winner David Horsey, you can probably imagine where this commentary is headed.   America, we have a problem! Events recently viewed by millions of sports enthusiasts worldwide are but a tip of the iceberg. I'm not speaking of nudity on the telly per se - each of us probably has a different point of view - but the undermining of the variety and quality of the programming being delivered to America and our youth by mega media groups. Shall we continue to allow the "dumbing down" of our youth?
Our country is at a crossroads. Something worth thinking about....

So What Can We Do?
Considering the time it takes to get anything accomplished in Washington DC, individual efforts there may or may not have any effective results. However, there are things that can be done right here in our own backyard. Below are some pictures sent to me by Sara Jo Odom that depict something happening right here at Northwest Classen HS. In the school library is a museum of past achievements of NWC grads. [Click for large pics.]

Unfortunately, funding is sadly lacking to provide a well rounded education to this generation of Knights. Donations have kept the Band, Football & Baseball Teams, and other extra curricular activities solvent. These funds have also provided scholarships and assisted the arts. One organization that is helping to preserve the traditions and promote quality education is the NWC Alumni Association. You should have received a letter from Jerry Bednar recently with an application form. To help keep the standards high and the memories alive, please consider joining ...

WHAT'S NEW:
If you have not heard, Jerry Bednar will not be able to lead the next Reunion committee. (And the hallowed purple and gold house on Venice Blvd. has been sold). Hopefully you received his recent correspondence with his new address(es) and contact information. If any news is forthcoming on Reunion plans I will pass them on in this newsletter...
On a personal note, I am pleased to announce the publication of the Cheves Media's new magazine: The American Surveyor. Fully owned and published in the USA by the Cheves family! In the near future I will be moving the NWC website to our new server. Hopefully, the transition will be seamless. If you have problems accessing the site, or changes submitted are not immediately posted, please be patient.... Thanks.

Please visit the Lost Knights page on the '60's NWC Website to see if you have information about any of our classmates who are "missing". Scroll up to submit ANY information that might be helpful. This is an ongoing Quest! - The Scribes and Keepers of the Royal DataBase thank you!
