Journal: Day 4
April 22nd, 1998
Today I woke up in the red neck town of Blanding, Utah. We got dressed and dad called Gilbert's Auto Repair and the office. We got in the car and drove out of town but we decided to turn back and get gas but we hadn't gotten too far. I got a bag of chips and a 100 Grand chocolate bar.

The Ferry

WaterWorld!
We left town and decided to go to Hall's Marina and take the ferry across Lake Powell. As we were driving to the ferry we saw some old Indian ruins in caves but we didn't stop because we were going to go to Mesa Verde the next day. We got to the Marina and we had about 1hr. And 15 minutes to kill. We looked at some nice houseboats and we went to the store. When it was time we drove down to the dock and we boarded the ferry. It only held 3 cars and we were 2nd in line. We got on and we got out of the car and we went to the bow of the ferry and we looked out across Lake Powell and we got a lot of pictures. When we got to the other side we drove away and we saw Lake Powell some more and we went to an out look and we saw the mixing waters. There was a lot of muddy water and some clear green water and they were side by side but the didn't really mix. We kept on driving and we drove across the Dirty Devil River that was named by one of Powell's team mates who just thought of it after he was asked what the river was.

We got a couple of pictures and we headed across the Utah border and went into Colorado. We entered a Ute Indian Reservation which was kind of depressing because all of the houses looked the same and there was graffiti and most of the Indian culture was gone. We headed past some big rocks and drove about 20 miles and we arrived at Four Corners. We got some pictures of me and the Four Corners plaques. There were about 15 shops there that had all Indian crafts. We went past a couple shops and I saw some small sand paintings that I liked so I got one that had a Thunder Warrior Eagle on it and one of a Sun God. Uncle Joel got me a necklace that had a small silver Kokopelli on it. Kokopelli is a small Indian person who has a flute and he is bent over playing it and I have seen hundreds of them (ex. Kokopelli Jeeps, Kokopelli Bikes) there are even Kokopellies in our hotel and hotel room! We left Four Corners and we headed to Cortez.

Sonic
We went to a Sonic!!!!!!!!!! That was probably the best meal that I have had on the whole trip. We didn't know where to stay so we headed to the Mesa Verde National Park because we had heard that they had log cabins there. It turned out to be a trailer park with 3 cabins that were about 12x6 each. We decided to head back to Cortez, but a sign said Anasazi something so we went there. It was closed!
We came back to Cortez and checked into a Best Western Turquoise and Suites hotel and it is nice! I went down to the pool and there was this one 10 year old named Trevon who kept on throwing his little 2 year old sister in the water and she couldn't swim. I wanted to punch him right in the face and throw him through the window. But his little brothers and sisters were there, and so was his big sister who was telling him to stop doing that. I just said to him, "Hey, cut it off buddy." He stopped after that. We got a nice hotel room tonight and I just got out of the shower. Dad is telling me to be prepared for Randy Wilson and he is telling me about him and I don't know if I want to meet him. Tomorrow is Thursday and we are going to Mesa Verde and I can't wait!

See ya later!
